William J. Thatcher
Attorney at Law
William Thatcher has been practicing law for over forty years in Fort Dodge and is a general practitioner who works primarily in the areas of estate planning, probate, real estate, and business law. A graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High, he received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 1970 and his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1973. After completing his education, William returned to Fort Dodge and joined the Webster County Attorney’s Office. He served as County Attorney from 1975 to 1978 and as a part-time United States Magistrate. William is a judicial magistrate for Webster County, a position that he has held for over thirty years. He is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, the Webster County Bar Association, and the Iowa Association of Magistrate Judges.
William has served the community in numerous capacities, including leadership positions with Fort Dodge H.O.M.E., the Fort Dodge Salvation Army, the Prairie Gold Council of Boy Scouts, Friendship Haven, Trinity Regional Medical Center, the Iowa Health Facilities Council, and the First United Methodist Church Endowment Committee.
In his private life, William enjoys flying his airplane, traveling, fishing, being outdoors, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
